According to a poll conducted by the Heart and Stroke Foundation in Canada, approximately 67% of Canadians have attempted to lose weight over the past five years but have not been able to keep up with it.
Furthermore, the survey also showed that only around 17% of those who were overweight were able to lose at least 5 pounds and keep it away for a period of 5 years.
Needless to say, it is indeed tough to maintain the balance for people who were once overweight. But to think that the majority of people who try to lose weight fail at it, only proves one thing; that there is something technically wrong with the regime or method adopted by most people in losing weight.
Another possible reason could be a lack of follow through of the fitness regime.
The survey did find that the primary reason behind the widespread failure of weight loss plans is the lack of support or follow up of the initially devised and practiced diet plan.
Where most people go wrong is in the small matters leading up to huge changes. Workout regimes and diets may be implemented in full swing, but there may be certain lifestyle habits or routines that may possibly be hindering or counter affecting the efforts towards weight loss.
Besides that there are many misconceptions and fads regarding diets that lead people on to adverse effects. For example, carbs are always considered as enemies to a fit life. However, that is not always the case. Depending on each person’s individual weight loss story and natural body nature, carbs may or may not be the culprit.

If you are one of the many people who are struggling with your weight loss regime, here are 5 things you can do to make your journey easier.
Drink green tea
Green tea is famous for its antioxidant properties. It is often associated with weight loss regimes but there are many mixed opinions regarding the benefits of the same.
Green tea contains small amounts of caffeine and a large amount of catechins; the antioxidant that is uniquely attributed to the beverage. According to several studies, both these ingredients are believed to work complementary to one another in burning fat. And it can be used either as a beverage or as a concentrate or supplement.
Include movement in your daily life
Apart from going to the gym and apart from the 6 cycle workout regimes that you’ve promised yourself, make movement a part of your daily life and do not restrict activities to the gym alone. For example, make it a habit to always take the stairs instead of the elevator. At work, make sure to get up from your seat every once in a while and take a walk. Similarly, even on your cheat days, be sure to be active in terms of movement. This will ensure continuous burning of fat.
Love your workout
Many people quit their workout regimes and weight loss plans half way through as a result of a lack of interest in working out. This is especially true when the bulk of the weight has already been burnt and it comes down to the less visible fat left to be burnt. Hence, it is very important to love what you’re doing while working out. If you don’t, you will probably end up slacking. For example, some people love high intensity activities like kickboxing and HIIT. Others love moderate exercises like Yoga.
Consciously cut back on sugar
Added sugar is perhaps the biggest hindrance to your weight loss dreams. Even in a normal scenario people consume way too much added sugar. It may not always be as evident, which is why many people don’t realize that it is sugar that is keeping them from losing weight. Studies have shown that sugar consumption increases the risk of obesity and diabetes.
For example, a lot of foods that you purchase from the store may be loaded with sugar. Additionally, the intermittent drinks or light beverages that you consume throughout the say also contain sugar. Hence it is always a good idea to read the labels before you purchase anything. It would also be good to avoid or reduce the sugar in your drinks.
Eat a high-protein breakfast
A high-protein breakfast will make you feel full and less hungry throughout the day. In fact it has been proven to reduce cravings and in turn calorie intake, which helps you eliminate processed foods and unnecessary eating habits. Additionally, proteins take a longer time to digest and get absorbed by the body. This will keep your blood sugar from rising rapidly as well.
